about

Soft Walls Collective is made up of Anita Cazzola, Emma Worley, and denirée isabel. Anita and Emma met at OCAD University and denirée and Emma met while completing an Artist Residency at Harbourfront Centre. It was in these spaces that conversations around collective labour, extended weaving technique and relational textile construction emerged. Since then, we have each collaborated with one another on projects such as Soft Walls, in the Cloth Care Collective, and now our forthcoming weaving performance at Nuit Blanche 2022.

Driven by our shared curiosity, we gather together to generate extended techniques within the weaving process, altering implements and approaches in unconventional ways. We collaboratively conceptualize site-specific weaving performances which investigate the relations between bodies, cloth, and space.

Collectively we have exhibited across Canada in 10C Guelph, the Khyber Centre for the Arts in Halifax, Vancouver, Art Gallery of Peterborough, and various venues in Toronto including the MOCA, Harbourfront Centre, Abbozzo Gallery and Propeller Gallery. We’ve been artists-in-residence at Harbourfront, NSCAD’S Lunenburg Arts Residency, Listastofan in Reykjavik, City of Guelph. We’ve received funding from OAC, TAC, City of Guelph, Guelph Arts Council, OCAD University, FACTOR, and the Canada Council of Arts.
